Extending a Huntsville Parking Pad Beyond the Existing Pavement

This Huntsville, AL parking project went beyond adding asphalt beside an existing paved surface. Nash Paving was extending the parking pad into ground occupied by trees and vegetation, so the new footprint had to be opened up before paving could move forward.

The job started outside the limits of the existing asphalt and finished with additional usable parking space incorporated into the paved area.

Making Room for the Parking Pad Extension

Before we could extend the parking pad, we had to clear the area where the new pavement would go. Trees stood within the expansion area, along with grass and other unpaved ground beside the existing parking surface.

Our crew removed the trees and cleared the surrounding ground to make room for the extension. That work was part of the paving scope because this was not a resurfacing job confined to existing asphalt. We were expanding the parking footprint into an area that had not previously been paved.

When a parking area moves beyond its existing pavement, the ground within the proposed extension has to be addressed before it can become part of the paved surface. On this Huntsville job, removing the trees and clearing the area opened the space needed to carry the parking pad farther across the property.

From Cleared Ground to New Asphalt

With the expansion area opened up, the work moved into paving. The new footprint ran directly alongside the existing parking surface, turning ground that had been outside the paved area into part of the parking pad.

A light-colored granular surface covered portions of the cleared area during construction. We then placed asphalt across the new section, with compaction equipment working over the surface as paving progressed.

By the later stage of the job, fresh asphalt covered the area we had opened beside the existing parking pad. That new pavement carried the parking surface farther across the property and tied the extension into the existing asphalt.

Additional Usable Parking in Huntsville

When the work was complete, the parking pad reached farther across the property. Ground that had previously been occupied by trees and vegetation was now part of the paved footprint, creating additional usable parking space and extending the existing asphalt into an area that had not previously been paved.
